Recovery Key Prompt
We are in the process of testing Bitlocker on Windows 7 client attached to a domain environment. The configuration is setup that Bitlocker will not be enabled unless the Recovery Key is backed up to AD, this is working fine. We are enabling Bitlocker on
all fixed drives incluing the system drive, this is also working fine. We are also controlling the configuration via GPO's which are being successfully applied to our test machines, currently only 5 laptops, 1 Tosh and 4 Dell's.
The problem we are experiencing is that we are continually being promoted for the Recovery Key, however this can be at first cold boot, a warm boot but not at a complete reboot, it is inconsistent. Are there any tools out there that we can use to discover
what actually made Bitlocker believe that there is a problem that requires the Recovery Key?

Maybe this blog post can help you somewhat

Can you see a pattern to when BitLocker is entering recovery mode? Are the users local administrators, i.e. can potentially change the settings of the system so that it will prompt for recovery password?Blogging about Windows for IT pros at
