Recover Offline files
Hi, I've wasted days on this. The scenario is an SBS 2011 network with roaming profiles and folder redirection. One of the users has a laptop that is offsite most of the time. Its hard disk started going down so its been replaced. For some reason an image copy of the original disk wouldn't boot even though the failing disk would still boot. The users redirected folders on the server were updated by booting the laptop from the failing disk and the server was brought up to date. A fresh install of Win7 went on the new disk but the offline folder copy never really got fully established. Some files were there and some wern't. I followed some directions about setting a registry key to get the CSC to reinitialise itself and tried again. Same situation. This time I went through each folder manually telling it to sync. There are approx 7000 files in My Docs. The user is getting really frustrated as this nonsense has been going on for a week now. The next step is to disable offline folders, roaming profile and folder redirection for that user and put the files manually on that laptop and arrange a manual backup to a USB disk. Is there some fix that I have missed or does this just not work properly.... Thanks Ken

Hi , If you are able to add the offline files manually, this issue may be more related on the server side. You can try gpupdate /force to get the GPO applied. In addition, for GPO related issues, please open a new thread in the following Windows Server group policy forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/threads The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Hi Tracy, As it happens I'm working on that PC again today. What I'll do is wipe the users files off the server and the PC, delete the users profile off the PC. I'll do the gpupdate as you suggested. Then I plan to re-establish the users profile and then take the PC off line and load the users files back on again via the PC. Previously I had put the files on the server and expected the PC's CSC to get in step. This time I'll do it the other way round, which is more like what the user will have done in the first place. Thanks Ken
