Realtek LAN Driver disappears
Hi all,for the most part Windows 7 has been working ok on my computer, The only issue I have is that my onboard Realtek RTL8168C (P)8111C(P) Family PCI-E GBE NIC just "disappears" after a reboot or a shurdown. It doesnt show up in the Device Manager at all. I have installed the latest driver from Realtek (1/20/2009) and Windows Update tells me I have the newest driver available. I have also disabled the power management and IPV6 and the driver still disappears. I am using a linksys USB wireless adapter and it has proven to be more stable then my onboard Realtek. Its not a major issue but a puzzle I would like to solve. My Specs:Biostar A770 AM2+ motherboard ATI Radeon HD4350 512MB PCIe video160 WD Sata HDDRealtek HD audio (onboard and no issues)Realtek onboard LAN (poof... disappears... issues!)any ideas?thx

I'm having problems with IE 8 and Live Mail that indicate there are DNS problems however Firefox and Opera work fine. I am using the same NIC. I cannot help but wonder what's the case. Good luck.

Hi Rebelle, It seems that the current driver is not installed properly. Launch Program and Features from Control Panel, remove the existing Realtek network driver. Then run Windows Update to install the driver. If the driver is still not installed, I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and install the driver manually with the downloaded driver pack from Realtek. Arthur Xie - MSFT

hi all, just wanted to say thx for the input.....I tried all of the above suggestions for my network driver and for some reason the driver doesnt "take". I uninstalled driver.... windows update didnt find a driver for it..... so I manually installed the driver I previously downloaded from realtek.... after all that the driver still "disappeared". and still not listed in Device manager. So... I went into BIOS and disabled my onboard lan and installed a old PCI D-link network card I had and viola'! windows found it and installed the driver and it is working like a charm! Network adapter shows up in Device Manager and hooks up to the network/internet after being shutdown over night..... tested it again by putting pc into sleep ....network addapter still shows up and works great.... I think maybe my onboard NIC could be a dud!? thx again for input :-)

Contact lindachen@realtek.com and ask her for the win7 drivers for your realtek network card. I don't know if they are beta or just pre-release but I can't find em on the internet anyplace but she emailed them to me.
