Read Only Attribute Not Being Disabled.
Hello, I was redirected here by a moderator from another thread. I've recently installed Windows 7 as a dual boot with XP and I've noticed that all files and folders on all of my drives are set to read only, I've tried repeatedly to unset the attribute but have failed, I've even used the "attrib" function from the command prompt. This problem has carried over to XP as well, I can't unset the property from there either, I've also sent in feedback about this and heard no response whatsoever, if anyone has any suggestions or fixes, it would be greatly appreciated.Specs:Intel Celeron 2.93 Ghz processor2.00 GB DDR RamATI Radeon 9550/ X1050 256MB DDR

Your user accounts probably lack the necessary full control permissions in order to make the necessary changes to settings. Most folders even custom folders on XP, Vista, and 7 will see the read only box checked off by default anyways due to the default security policies inplace in each version. Windows ignores the Read Only attribute for folders. Are you sure the actual files are marked Read Only or is it just the folders?Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
