Re: BSOD Kernel Security Check Failure

Hello,

I've been getting a consistent BSOD on my computer for a couple weeks saying either "Kernel Security Check Failure" or "IRQL Not less than or equal."

This lead me to do a full refresh of my Windows 8.1. As far as I'm aware, all of my drivers for my applications and hardware are up to date, and I keep them up to date automatically.

I've uploaded a mini-dump to onedrive, see link below.

Can you please help me sort this? It's very frustrating as the computer is barely a year old and it's not a weak performer. I'd love for it to stop dying on me :(

Hi,

KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (139)

This bug check indicates that the kernel has detected the corruption of a critical data structure.

- The first argument is 3 which indicates a LIST_ENTRY was corrupted.

The corruption occurred somewhere along the Direct X MMS video scheduler calls, probably during the preparation of a direct memory access buffer.

1. AiCharger.sys is listed and loaded in the modules list which is the Asus Charger driver. It's included in many Asus bloatware, which you appear to have installed. Please go ahead and uninstall any and all Asus software as it's unnecessary bloatware.2. Ensure you have the latest video card drivers via the manufacturers website. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you have already experimented with the latest video card driver and many previous versions, please give the beta driver for your video card a try.

3. After the above, navigate to services.msc and disable the nVidia Streaming Service, and then restart the computer.

4. If all of the above fail, remove and replace Norton with Windows 8's built-in Windows Defender for temporary troubleshooting purposes:

Windows Defender (how to turn on after removal)

A.Navigate toControl Panel (with icons). You can do this by hittingStart > Search > Control Panel. Once in Control Panel, change the drop-down fromCategory to Large and/or Small icons.

B.Among the list of icons, find and click Action Center.

C. Assuming the removal of your prior antivirus software went properly, you will notice for both Spyware and unwated software protection (important) and Virus protection (important), it'll have a button labeled Turn on now. Click this button (it doesn't matter which, as Windows Defender serves as both in Windows 8/8.1).

Patrick

Seeing a similar problem on a friend's computer.  Based on the minidump he gave me, he has an Asus motherboard, some Symantec product, and Nvidia Streamer.  Seems like that's a deadly combination.  No trace of AiCharger.sys or anything related, though.

For reference, here's the stack trace:

nt!KeBugCheckEx
nt!KiBugCheckDispatch+0x69
nt!KiFastFailDispatch+0xd0
nt!KiRaiseSecurityCheckFailure+0xf4
dxgmms1!VIDMM_GLOBAL::PrepareDmaBuffer+0x1b51c

dxgmms1!VidSchiRun_PriorityTable+0x252
dxgmms1!VidSchiWorkerThread+0x8d
nt!PspSystemThreadStartup+0x58
nt!KiStartSystemThread+0x16

This was on 6.3.9600.17415; original was 6.3.9600.17041.

I'll have to wait a few hours to hear whether disabling Nvidia Streamer solved the issue.
