Ram installation issue/ problem

Hello, I have a notebook which is Toshiba Satellite L40-B (PSKQ8H-00P005)  and  I have installed a additional 4gb Kingston ram in the empty slot B ram slot in the motherboard. After I turned on my notebook, CPU-Z recognized my additional ram, it said there are 2 slots each installed 4gb ram, but Windows doesn't, I checked in msinfo32, task manager and system info, it only said 4 gb installed. I rebooted and entered UEFI setup, it only recognized one 4gb ram, I swap those ram in different slot a few times and the result is still the same. I cannot find any settings in the UEFI regarding ram, what can I do?

This is most likely because you are running a 32 bit operating system. 32 Bit operating systems only support 4GB of ram. If you update to a 64-bit operating system, you will be able to leverage all 8 GBs.

You can find your bitness of your operating system by following this article: http://www.winability.com/how-to-tell-if-my-windows-is-32-or-64-bi

You should contact manufactured regarding this issue regarding how to upgrade your RAM, RAM also can be limited by hardware and OEM configuration

for the OS side, RAM can be limited based on OS that you are using

Go to system properties to check whether you are using 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 8.1

RAM limits in Windows 8.1 Enterprise 4GB on x86, 512GB on x64
RAM limits in Windows 8.1 Professional 4GB on x86, 512GB on x64
RAM limits in Windows 8.1 4GB on x86 or x32, 128GB on x64

Hello William Au Tin Lok.

Did you check for the compatibility of the new RAM module with your system? If the module is not absolutely compatible (in terms of speed, latency, etc.) and correctly supported by your system, some issues can arise. Furthermore, your system could not be able to support further RAM modules if you go out of the maximum supported RAM amount.
