RSAT Installation - ADUC Missing
I just installed RSAT on my Windows 7 Pro laptop (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=7D2F6AD7-656B-4313-A005-4E344E43997D&displaylang=en) and when I went to enable which tools I wanted, I couldn't find ADUC. Do you have to install another adminpack like with Windows 2003? Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric, According the instructions in the Installing Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7, you need to expand Remote Server Administration Tools in the Windows Features dialog box and make sure all the items in the “AD DS and AD LDS tools” are checked. You may refer to the following steps to check it. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Programs. 2. In the Programs and Features area, click Turn Windows features on or off. 3. If you are prompted by User Account Control to enable the Windows Features dialog box to open, click Continue. 4. In the Windows Features dialog box, expand Remote Server Administration Tools and Role Administration Tools, expand AD DS and AD LDS Tools, expand AD DS Tools, and then make sure all the items are checked. 5. Click OK. After that, please go to start menu to check if the “Active Directory Users and Computers” is listed in the Administrative Tools. The only features I have listed are: Feature Administration Tools Role Administration Tools Server Manager I am missing the AD DS and AD LDS Tools. Back with Windows 2003, I believe ADUC was part of the Adminpak tools installed from the Windows 2003 install disc. Any other ideas? Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric, Is there no AD DS and AD LDS Tools listed under the Role Administration Tools when trying to expand Remote Server Administration Tools in Windows Features dialog box in Windows 7 computer? If so, please list the items which you can see under the Role Administration Tools. Would you like to assist in capturing a screenshot for further research? How to capture a screenshot ====================== 1. In the Windows Features dialog box, expand Remote Server Administration Tools, and expand Role Administration Tools, please press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2. Click the "Start" Button, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste". Then click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5. Hi Eric, After checking your screenshot, I found that the AD DS and AD LDS Tools and the items under it haven’t been checked when trying to turn on the features in the Windows Features dialog box. Please go to open the Windows Features dialog box, expand Remote Server Administration Tools, expand Role Administration Tools, expand AD DS and AD LDS Tools and expand AD DS Tools, and then make sure all the items under them are checked. Please click “OK” to apply it. After that, please go to start menu to check if the “Active Directory Users and Computers” is listed in the Administrative Tools. You may refer to the screenshot here.
