RSAT - DNS IP Address Sorting Issue
I installed RSAT. Using the DNS MMC, sorting the DATA column used to sort numerically in XP / Windows 2003. But ever since Vista / Windows 2008, the DATA column seems to be sorted by ASCII value rather than treating the column as numeric values. So now it looks like:1.1.1.11.1.1.101.1.1.1001.1.1.11..1.1.1.19..1.1.1.21.1.1.20I have read post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverManagement/thread/f1b686ad-824f-4c16-a66c-f9470a2dfa6d/ and can't believe that MS thinks that it is working as designed or an improvement. I have reserved static ranges and it is a PITA to look and see what IPs are used or available. We run DNS on W2K3 so it has to be the MMC Client.... Any ideas how to return it to sorting numerically? Is / will MS be putting out some sort of fix or at least a choice?

OK2ASK,This appears to be an oversight on MSFT's DNS Development Team's part. The Data field in all of the zones are set to alpha-numeric. Instead of sorting theeach octet of the IP addresses, 000.000.000.000 through 255.255.255.255, as a 3 digit number, they are sorting each digit independently,0 through 9. Thus, 1,10, 11,16, 100, 145are placed inthe followingorder:1101001114516I am certain that we will see this is a future update. This must have been an oversight.
