RDP on desktop
In XP one could have a number of RDP programs on the desktop / pc all with different servers to connect to and with different user names for each session. With Win 7 this allow only 1 "profile" and changing any of the others all revert to the last change. for eg I want 1 that will connect to a remote server in JHB with user joe then another connection to a server in CPT with user pete. and want both on my desktop. I have tried to save these into various other folders and create a shortcut to to desktop.. to no avail. it appears that whatever settings are used whenever the RDP program runs it picks up only 1 setting

Hi Larry,It is possible to do what you want.It sounds as though you've been doing the right things... E.g., creating a connection from within the Remote Desktop application, then clicking the Save As button to save a .rdp file. What I don't understand yet is why you cannot set up connections to multiple different machines.I just created two different .rdp files to describe connections to two of my systems, using two different user IDs, saving both in my My Documents area. Then I placed two shortcuts on my desktop, one each to each .rdp file, by dragging the files with the right mouse button and choosing Create Shortcut Here. I was able to make the separate connections using the different user IDs and all went as expected, each logging in to the different system using the different user IDs.Are you loading and saving the .rdp files from within the Remote Desktop Connection application (mstsc.exe)? Can you describe the exact sequence you're using to create these .rdp files? You know to edit them you'll have to first choose Options, then click the [ Open... ] button, then edit, then choose [ Save ] right?-Noel
