RDP loses its connection often.
In our office we have a Vista Business machine, in the past we could connect remotely from an XP Professional notebook without issues. The notebook was replaced with a Windows 7 Professional machine. Now when we connect remotely the connection gets dropped often, it re connects most of the time. Neither machine looses its connection to the Internet Can someone tell me why the notebook keeps losing the connection?

It is possible that the tcp stack on that client is using an mtu lower than 1500 and packets need to be defragmented. You can find out if this is the case by using ping with -l option and try different mtu size. Please follow the test as described here: http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu_ping_test.shtml Vincenzo MCTS, MCTIP Server 2008 | MCTS Exchange 2010 | WatchGuard Firewall Security Professional

Let me make sure I know what you mean. From the notebook ping the IP address (as we remote into an IP not a name) as is 69.240.189.XX -f -1 1500? If it says defragement, I sould defrag the drive?

Also note the remote Vista machine is behind a router that has several machines availabe for rdp via a port like :3390. Will this make a difference?

When I did not ping test as ping 69.240.189.XX -f-l 1500 it said packet needs to be fragmented. When I did it at 1470 it timed out.

try to lower the mtu value until you find the one that works for you. If the source and destination machines are on different networks and the traffic goes through a router, you need to review the mtu setting on the router thenVincenzo MCTS, MCTIP Server 2008 | MCTS Exchange 2010 | WatchGuard Firewall Security Professional

Hi, You could try to temporarily disable Windows Firewall and your anti-virus software on your Windows Vista client to check how it works. Network connectivity fails when you try to use Windows Vista behind a firewall device Also, check Event Viewer and find the events created by “RemoteAccess” to troubleshoot the issue.
