RDP Connections & Smartcards
Hi, I have a smartcard reader connected to my home PC. I enabled remote desktop and connect to this PC using my notebook. I use a home banking application which needs access to the smartcard. This works fine when I work directly on the PC. However when I connect to the PC using Remote Desktop from my notebook it can't find the smartcard. I already disabled the smartcard feature in the Remote Desktop connection... What else can I do? Thanks,Thomas Pagel

According to my understanding, you encounter the following situation: 1. A smartcard reader connected to PC 2. The remote desktop connection between the PC and the notebook 3. The smartcard works fine on PC, but cannot be found on the notebook In order to let the smartcard work, firstly you need to enable the smartcard feature in the Remote Desktop connection. Due to the complex situation, I would like more information: 1. Does this smartcard work on other applications? Except this e-banking application. 2. Did this smartcard work on the banking application through remote desktop before? 3. What kind of e-banking are you using? Does the bank have strict online banking authentication? Since many banks set very strict connection authentication, I also recommend you contact the e-banking support for information. Meanwhile, which smartcard are you using? Not all the smarcards support full function under RDC since authentication method during Remote Desktop sessions. Please make sure this smardcart support the RDP as well. Please feel free to give me any update. Hi Miya, well, I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) the RDP Smart-Card feature let you use a smartcard connected to your remote machine for an application on your host. That's not what I want to do... I just have this Smart-Card connected to my host and just want to "remote control" the banking application. So I don't think I need the RDP Smart-Card feature?! Regarding your questions: 1.) Unfortunately I only have this one application which uses the Smart-Card. 2.) The application is working fine on Remote Desktop, only if the application is needing the Smart-Card it fails 3.) This is a very common Home-Banking application here in Germany. There is a standard interface here (HBCI - Home Banking Common Interface) which is using the Smart-Card plus PIN for authentication. So this is not for Windows-Authentication... It's just for that HBCI Thanks, Thomas Pagel

Hi, If you want to use smartcard through Remote Desktop, you need to enable this feature. You can enable it to check if it works. And, not all the smartcard support full function under remote desktop, please make sure whether your smart card support it or not. Hi Miya, it doesn't work either way, with or without enabling the feature... So I can assume that simply the smartcard doesn't work through RDP? It's just funny because I would assume that there shouldn't be any issue because I just use it the same way as I would do when I sit in front of the machine, just my screen and keyboard/mouse are redirected... How can I check that my smartcard should support RDP? Thanks,Thomas Pagel

Hi, I'm now using LiveMesh as a Remote Access solution... This works fine with the SmartCard... However it also has disadvantages (like no sound)...Thomas Pagel
