RDP7 vs LogMeIn vs GoToMeeting
We need to remote into our domain workstations and servers for troubleshooting but I am told that this is very insecure and that we need to look into either LogMeIn or GoToMeeting instead. I am suspicious of this recommendation. I don't think RDP7 is any less or more insecure or secure than GoToMeeting or LogMeIn. Is that correct?

Well RDP is a very good remote desktop access, and it can be secured, Bing! for Secure RDP. GotoMeeting is not an effective remote server management tool, it is best used for meetings and such. LogMeIn works well for if you have a person on each machine, it's great for troubleshooting and assisting family over long distances. VNC is sloppy at times and can bottleneck with isp's that throttle bandwidth. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457106.aspx http://mcpmag.com/articles/2007/04/02/hacking-rdp.aspx I would suggest sticking with RDP and taking proper steps to ensure you have a secure environment to begin with.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. Thanks for your input. I will review the links you provided. I have used RDP and RDP7 for at other companies and never heard that it was any worse or better than LogMeIn or GoToMeeting. In fact, I have never seen it NOT used over any of those other applications. So, I questioned the suggestion.

I use RPD in some very tight controlled areas, managing many servers, I use Royal TS, to enable me to have a easy catalog of frequent machines in which I connect (it uses the RDP foundation basically). I use LogMeIn for support of some of my remote relatives, but it does require them to be at the machine to grant me rights to remote controll thier pc to fix it for them. As far as I know, it will not allow un-acknowledged connections the way RDP does (authentication and the way RDP works is differnet from LogMeIn). It is a good product, but not the right tool in the toolbox. GotoMeeting has done well for me giving online classes/presentations or attending meetings and so forth, but it is really geared at the "presentation market" not the administration of servers. I hope this somewhat sage advice helps guide you down the river of better server management and fun.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. Thank you. your input is exactly what I am looking for. I'm looking for what others feel about RDP, GoToMeeting and LogMeIn and also how it is used. I was just floored to hear the comments from my own team member.
