RDC For Mac not working right
Hi, I'm using Windows Remote Desktop Connection Client for Macintosh v.2.0.0 to connect to a Windows 7 machine on the local network. I can connect, and use the mouse, but whenever I strike a key (any key at all), I get disconnected. Has anyone else experienced this or have a fix?

Have you tried remotely connecting to another Windows OS from the same Mac? Does that give you the same problems? -Nick

Do you get a message when this happens? Does it work the other way around?

Hi, Sorry to be so long getting back to this question. This connection worked perfectly with Win XP Pro on the same Mac and same Windows machines. These are the only 2 machines I can possibly try it on. When I loaded the eval. copy of Windows 7 I started having the problem.

Yes, I get a message. RDC pops up a small window and says: "You were disconnected from the Windows based computer. Someone with access to the Windows-based computer may have ended the connection, or the Windows-based computer has dropped the connection. Try reconnecting to the Windows-based computer, or contact your administrator." [Cancel] [Reconnect] I don't understand what you mean by "Does it work the other way around?" I have no need to connect from the Win 7 box to the Mac, as the Mac is my full-time workstation, and the Win 7 box is just to experiment with and keep up with what's going on in Windows.

If it works one way but not the other it is a different problem than if it doesn't work either way.

Yes, that's obvious, no offense. The RDC forum at Mactopia identifies this as a PPC vs Intel issue, with Intel Macs only being able to connect AND type. I have a PPC Mac, so I need something like VNC. Has anyone used one of the VNC's to connect and type from a PPC Mac to Win 7? There's too many VNC's available now...it's confusing.

I can confirm this is an issue, and is also discussed on other boards. For me it is following on from this problem: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/89c769ac-7df8-4b64-bfe7-8b24192c681f/ That's now fixed, I can see my screen, move my mouse etc, but as soon as I type I get disconnected. This happens on any PPC Mac connecting TO a Windows 7 Machine. MS, fix please :)

You don't want to use VNC, it's way slower than RDP. I'm using TSclientX, which is based on the free GPL'd version of rdesktop from the Linux world. It's a fairly good replacement for RDC, and I've used it over the years whenever RDC either was missing a feature, or started randomly disconnecting me from a particular machine for whatever reason. You do need to have X11 installed to run TSclientX. http://desktopecho.com/tsclientx/

P.S. The new RDC Version 2.0.1 does not resolve this issue for me either.

I have not been successful with Microsoft RDC and the keyboard issue. I have had some success using a program called CoRD. There is some info on it at cord.sourceforge.net. I think its a little less responsive than the Microsoft one, but it does at least let me connect to my Windows 7 machine and do what I need to do until hopefully Microsoft gets it working again.
