RC: no sound after resume from sleep
On one occasion so far, my PC had no sound after it woke from (overnight) S3 mode. The Volume Mixer didn't even list the speakers as an audio device; instead, it showed only an S/PDIF device. The device manager did not show any problems. Rebooting brought the speakers back. This problem only occurred once; S3 has worked properly all other times. (I have basic stereo speakers that plug into a jack on the system board.) This is a step backward from the Beta version, which never lost its sound for me. (On the other hand, when the Beta version woke from S3, it sometimes lost my USB MS FF2 Joystick and USB CH Pro Pedals, which has not happened so far in the RC.) Search for drivers. Most of the time; thats all it takes to fix the issue.I was having problems with my graphic card after the computer turn on from sleep mode; my screen would turn on and off lossing signal and flickering.Something is deffenetly wrong with Sleep Mode. Most of the time; my computer always turns on by it's self from Sleep Mode. It wont stay asleep, and it's very annoying. My printer doesn't print after Sleep Mode.

Search for drivers. Most of the time; thats all it takes to fix the issue. Thanks, but that doesn't sound appropriate in this case. Ever since the Beta, I've been using the audio drivers automatically supplied by Windows, and I've only seen one isolated failure. (The only drivers I've manually installed are the Nvidia WDDM 1.1/185.81 video drivers.)

I personally don't trust does automatic drivers because until I downloaded the driver from the ATI website, my screen wouldn't stop flickering after Sleep Mode. Meaning the drivers Windows provide are just there so you can see something on your screen; but they dont take the time to see which one is the one you need and will make it work at full performance. You can keep waiting for Windows to fix the issue. But your here for a reason, if you took the time to ask about it on a form, why not take the time to check in their website?

ae69ae, thank you for the advice. But aside from the video drivers (which I mentioned above), the drivers supplied by Windows 7 have consistently been the best availabe. My post in this case was just intended to report the bug. It's not worth my time to look for other drivers unless the problem occurs again.

Now they will never find out that something is wrong with Sleep Mode.

Gary, I assume from your post that you are using the onboard codec (probably realtek). (I think the included driver is 1.97 or some such) Yes, I hear what you are saying, but I would be inclined to grab a driver from Realtek site and install that. I have been using 2.17 for quite a while on Win7 (various) and was using 2.14 on Vista before that. Though, again, I hear what you are saying. Kris

Thanks, Kris. Maybe I'll try that later. What I'd really like to fix, though, is the Media Center problem I mentioned in another recent thread here. :)

My computer does this EVERY time it goes to sleep....no sound whatsoever, I have to restart the computer, then the sound works fine. I have a DIAMOND sound card, and downloaded the latest drivers....no help. The same thing happened with Vista, but the updated drivers fixed the problem.....soooo looks like I'll just have to wait for an update to the drivers by the company whenever they decide to upgrade to Win7 drivers. <sigh> meanwhile....re-boot.... re-boot ...re-boot

I have the same problem on my laptop. I've been to the Gateway site looking for drivers but they have none, and I don't think this is a driver issue. Has this issue been addressed? Is there a fix? I've already pre-purchased Windows 7, but I'd hate to think it's going into production when a bug like this is still prominent. The model is a Gateway P-6860FX.

Hi FLepore The following information has been posted many times on these forums. There are several well documented bugs in the Windows 7 RC build. The bug appears when a hardware/software component fails to re-initializewhen the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernation or will not enter the suspend state. These bugshave only beenseen on specific systems that havecombinations of certain hardware/software installed. The only way we have to deal with these issues in the RC buildis to try and avoid using the Sleep/Hibernate functions as much as possible. If you experience this bug and still need to use the Sleep or Hibernate functions be aware that you could possibly lose any unsaved information in applications. The latest information we have is that these issues are fixed in the RTM build.sleep - Microsoft TechNet Forums Search Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Well, I am on the final version of Windows 7 and I am still having this issue. The sound is just fine when I boot up but if my hp2000t laptop goes into hibernation or sleep mode... asta la vista audio. And while we are on the topic of audio, the drivers for my laptop were a pain to find. They weren't found on install, the ones on hp.com didn't work, and finally went to realtek's site and those worked... or worked as long as no hibernation or sleep was involved.

@NewBK I as well am on RTM and have the same issue. Same thing I had in the RC (7100). I have been searching for a resolution, but have not yet found one.

Hmm, I find that disable the speaker, and then re-enable the speaker, then the sound come back. please note that once you disable the speaker in Sound of Control Panel, remember to right-click, and check "show disabled device". Otherwise, the speaker (disabled device) will not be seen in the list.

Thanks for the idea but I tried it and still no sound after sleep/hibernation. Also, funny enough, when I plug in external speakers, the built in speakers still play. So both the internal and external speakers play.

Hi FolksSome of the issues related to these bugs (See my previous post in this thread) are still present in the RTM version.Work is continuing on these bugs and will hopefully be resolved soon. Keep checking Windows Update often for some upcoming compatibility updates.Regards,Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

I have an Acer Laptop running 64bit Windows 7. It has a 64bit Turion X2 processor, with 4Gigs memory. I have all the latest Windows updates, and all updated drivers. during normal operation I have no problems what so ever. everything runs fine, but if it is allow to go into sleep mode, and I awake windows, I have no sound, and like Gary02139 with his device manager. I have had no problem with hybernation. I now use hybernation instead of sleep mode. I check sleep mode every now and then. I have Realtek sound
