Quick question about Bitlocker USB Keys
(Heads up: Before upgrading to 7, I used TrueCrypt to encrpy my XP Pro SP3 drive.) I'm wanting to encrypt my Windows 7 System Drive and second hard drive. I have Ultimate, so I really want to use Bitlocker since it's implemented and stuff. I do not have a TPM module, so I'm going to have to use a USB memory stick. I think I understand how the USB Key works. My question is, do I have to keep the USB stick in my computer the whole time it's on? Or only during the bootup process, and I can unplug once I log into windows? Hence the name "USB Startup Key?" Any clarification on that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you are correct, it is "bootup only". At startup, if you have not inserted the USB startup key, it will prompt either insert the key or reboot the computer. If you inserted the key, the computer will startup normally and then you can remove the USB from the USB port.Sean Zhu - MSFT
