Questions about ICS Configurations
I've read the ICS page, which is almost useless so I'm asking for input. Have a broadband connection running through a router with 3 others using WiFi. Problem is the router (2nd of them) is dying so I'm looking at adding a WiFi card to system that's close to modem and using ICS to share the connction. Will my hosts file impact access to listed sited for ICS users? Homegroup access - does it work with WiFi in ad-hoc/ICS mode? Need file/printer sharing yet it's problematic due to router issues (Do Not Mention Linksys/D-Link since both have given problems in past) Custom Firewall Rules - Block all on Public LAN except Specified program - Anything else to add for ICS to work correctly? Private/Domain are default settings How to restrict ICS to specified Comuters/Homegroup only? For the ICS system, Homegroup has shared printers/files that I want to keep available to rest of homegroup. System Specs - Build 7100/RC-64bit Intel MoBo - e6300 C2D 1.8GHZ 8GB memory Intel 82080 Onboard Gig-E for WAN Encore WiFi - Broadcom Chip (Win7 built in drivers work fine)

I would recommend that you buy a new WiFi ADSL router/Access Point. If you don't like Linksys/D-Link there are plenty of other suppliers. My Netgear works fine. ICS is very limited, and has the disadvantage that ther ICS host has to be running for any other machine to use the Internet link. Bill

Nicholas: Thanks for the Link - Interesting and I've bookmarked it. Is the feature available on Home Premium? What about WHS Bill: Learning Oppurtunity - What problems does ICS have - Security Issues - How big a risk? Firewall Rules. Mine are pretty restrictive already. What do I need to change to enable full function? Sheer Pig Headedness. Can I get it to work well? Budget Constraints - Earliest Router Replacement is late 2nd Qtr 2010 Performance Impact - How bad on current hardware Possible future WHS deployment on Current Hardware

Hi, Thank you for your update. My answers: 1. Wireless Hosted Network should work in Windows 7 and you should also ensure that your wireless NIC supports it. 2. This is a new feature for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, it is not avaiable in WHS. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
