Hi Lilandrael, Thanks for posting here! From the post, I'd like to confirm if the icon is created by finger printer driver/software. If this is the case, we may need to confirm with the manufacturer and see if this icon can be disabled from software configuration as it is not a component of Windows Vista system, we may not be able to disable it via group policy. If you have any other issue with logon issue, please feel free to let me know. Best regards,

Hi, I'd like to turn off this extra icon created by the finger print driver / software also. This finger print software may be causing merandom Vista logon screen corruption. The screen corrupts with many random black horizontal lines showing after the round Vista icon appears and right when the logon icons appear. The corruption maylast for a few seconds. The finger print driver / manufactureris UPEK, driver version 1.9.2.111. The driver that came with the laptop also had the same problem. The finger print processor is TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor Device Version: 4.2.25 Firmware variant: 20000001 Sensor Type: f8000020 System ID: 2000b At log on, the extra icon has the following text: Finger print logon Please swipe your finger. Other info: running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, on Dell m1530 laptop Intel T9500 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo. 4 GB memory. Graphics driver is nVidia 8600M GT 256MB. Please let me know if it is possible to turn it off. This corruption is quite annoying. Thanks, Dennis

I fully understand the inconvenience you have encountered. Dennis, I'm afraid this icon cannot be turned off by editing Windows Vista components. Based on my research, this icon should be combined with finger printer driver/software. Most of these software have an option to turn on/off the icon. Therefore, I suggest we first launch the finger printer software and check if there is an option to turn it off. If not, we may need to contact with the software vendor and see if this icon can be disabled. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi, I already checked, but no, the only way to disable this icon is to disallow logging on using finger print... Thanks, Dennis

Since credential providers are not users, they are not able to be hidden like users can be. There's a group policy method or registry switch that will make it so that the last logged in user name is not shown on the login page. However, there is no such switch for credential providers. What I have found, however, is that windows saves two registry strings for last logged in provider. If you delete them, then restart, the annoying credential service icon will be gone and the fingerprint credential provider will still function allowing fingerprint logon capability. Yay, right? Nope. As soon as you logon, the registry strings are recreated. My solution is to simply deleted the keys at each boot using a registry merge with the /s silent switch :) Make a new notepad and copy / paste the following: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI] "LastLoggedOnProvider"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData\1] "LastLoggedOnProvider"=- save as a .reg file in the root of your system drive (C:). I named mine 'provider.reg'. Press windows+r to open the run prompt, type in (without quotes) "c:\provider.reg" then press enter/ok. This will merge (delete the strings mentioned) for the first time which keeps you from having to reboot twice to see this work! Press windows+r to open the run prompt, type in (without quotes) "regedit " then press enter/ok. Navigate to: Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\run In the right pane, right click and add new string - name the string whatever you want. right click your new string and 'modify' copy /paste this as the string value (without quotes) "regedit.exe /s C:\provider.reg" DONE! The .reg file will run in silent mode at each boot, and delete the last logged in provider entries. Restart, and enjoy. (i know it's an old thread, but I found it looking for the answer myself. Just contributing my hard-earned solution)
