Protection from Identity theft
I have received a couple of emails after applying through a company website for a job. The first email did not mention the company name, but suggest I send my CV to a private email address. To be honest I more scanned than read the email, so I sent it. Then I received an email from someone else. My suspicions were aroused when I saw the poor spelling and vacabulary. Trouble is I had already sent the mail and CV.What do I need to do to make sure someone cannot get access to my PC? They have my email address and postal address and job history already so they can effectively use "me" to open bank and credit card accounts, etc. I don't feel safe. I have protection on my PC. Should I change my account details, email address, internet provider, etc?Can anyone offer any advice to protect myself? I will be reporting this to the Police, but I doubt they can do anything until something happens.ThanksPeergint1 person needs an answerI do too

Just having your email address and knowing where you live will not enable someone to get access to your computer. After all, everyone to whom you've ever sent an email knows your email address! Unless you sent them passwords, bank account numbers, or your Social Security Number (not things normally put on a CV), you are fine. If you are really concerned, here is a site that may help: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hi Malkeleah,Thank you for your reply. It helps, but when someone has that much information about you and you don't know them it's a bit disconcerting. On top of that, they can use your identity to open accounts, run up debts, purchase mobile phones, etc, etc. Falsifying information to open accounts in your name can cause you all sorts of trouble, and I want to protect myself before that happens. Thanks again. I'll try as you suggest.Peergint
