Promoting PC gaming within the Games Explorer
Will game providers, such as STEAM gaming be included by default within the 'Other game providers' section of the Games Explorer?I think this would be an excellent way to help promote PC Gaming. What about Microsofts own Games For Windows website link within the game folder? Why does it currently only link to MSN casual gaming? The Games For Windows brand / link embedded within he Games Folder would do a lot more for promoting Games For Windows than various other publicity methods done by Microsoft around the world in the past. Also, this wouldn't cost any money. Just embed the logo somewhere and link it to the Games For Windows website.Windows Vista should also be updated with the Games For Windows link as well. It's a shame to miss out on such a simple, cheap, and effective way of promoting PC gaming, especially when the number one challenge facing PC gaming is the lack of public awareness.9 out of 10 potentialhardcore PC gamers don't even know it exists on the PC, so they automatically go for consoles, because they think PCs are only for casual games like MSN Solitaire etc.The weblink would do good for awareness and publicity.GFWL should also be installed in Windows 7 by default.

Dear Pro1,nice to hear your thoughts...I can make a comment regarding one thing in your post...MSN game portal is there because it belongs to Microsoft , as you know MSN is the shortcut for MicroSoft Network, so I think its normal to inc. Microsoft products in W7 :)Erdal

It's not actually working 100% unfortunately, almost half of the games ive currently got installed dont have icons/.exe files to start them inside the games explorer, even though they are all installed to the same hard-drive which has a 500GB partition on it purely for games. if i go to all programs show up in the Games folder, assuming youve been given a choice where you want the game folder to install toin the start menu(not all games give this option). others are still in seperate folders and theres even a seperate folder called microsoft games... that currently has freelancer and Rise of Legends in it. with XP it was simple to cut and paste extraneous folders and trim down the start menu, however im finding it a bit more awkward to clean up in Windows 7.Does anyone know of a way to get games that arent showing up in Games explorer to do so?

The difference is that it represents hardcore PC games (third party games and also Microsoft developed games).I think Microsoft are 'killing' hardcore PC gaming with their focus on the XBOX 360. Read:http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/mgs-europe-simultaneous-releases-would-shoot-ourselves-in-the-foothttp://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/valve-questions-microsofts-commitment-to-pc-gaminghttp://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/blizzard-calls-for-microsoft-to-promote-pc-gamingGame studios, in general, report relatively extremely low numbers of sales on PC versions of Multiplatform game titles. Yes, even games that ARE released at the same time as the console versions. This doesn't tell me that the XBOX is under any threat, but the opposite: that hardcore high end PC gaming is under threat. Why would Microsoft want to reduce these figures even further? It's not as if there is any level of threat for the XBOX sales, especially when PC games are generally not even advertised.Microsoft have made massive cuts to their own PC games studios, and most of their titles are already XBOX exclusives. It is a shame (and ironic) that Microsoft, of all companies, is seen as the main destroyer of gaming on the PC.Job cuts at Microsoft studio:http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/01/report-massive-cuts-at-microsoft-flight-sim-studio.arsEven PC specific games (non console titles) are being affected. Generally, Microsoft Flight Sim games have almost zero advertising, anyway. They generally rely on word of mouth, which means most gamers or potential gamers are totally unaware of it. Most people, except hardcore PC gamers, are unaware of hardcore PC gaming, in general. The Games For Windows logo and link within the Games Explorer would at least make more people aware that these games exist on the PC.Games For Windows:http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/pages/index.aspx
