Problems with sleep mode in 7
I don't know if any one else is having this problem, but whenever I put 7 in sleep mode at night, it refuses to stay in sleep mode. For a while it would pop right back out and now it lasts anywhere from half and hour to a couple hours. My desktop is next to my bed and when I wake up in the morning, my computer is already onand at the login screen. Nothing is bumping my keyboard or mouse, any neither of them have a stuck ket or anything like that. Anyone have any clue at all what this might be? I'm tired of being woken up at 3am by the roar of my gpu fan.... thanks

Mine does it too and my updates and virus programs are set for 7:am but I will check again just to be sure. I can put mine into hibernate or sleep and it will wake up every time. chamblisstom@bellsouth.net

I've checked my update settings and my antivirus isn't the problem either.Under advanced options in power settings there is a option to allow timers to bring the computer out of sleep mode. I turned that off, so I'll let you guys know what the outcome of that is, but I think that might be the fix I was looking for.

I set mine like Darien has above except I checked all the boxes and mine is going to sleep better I think my external hard drive wakes it up sometimes. When it wakes up it gives me the option of opening the files in my external hard drive everytime, Like I had just pluged it up?? Can't have it all though. Thanks General Darien, Have a Great Day chamblisstom@bellsouth.net

Hi Wack12:If your PC is on a network with other PCs you might try this solution:Open Device Manager and right click your network adapter, select Properties> Power Management and if the option is there uncheck the box saying something to effect allow this device to wake the computer. I have since updated the LAN software and don't have that option listed but it was shown in the earlier software when I was having the problem. I don't remember the exact description of the option but I think you'll recognize it when you see it. Hope this helps. (Remember what you did in case you need to go back and re-check it if it doesn't solve the problem.)I got 1/75th of a blue ribbon for that answer for another poster! :)EDIT: The built-in LAN software in Win7 does offer that option. Mine is unchecked and I don't remember doing it myself but have 4 PCs with 2 or 3 O.S. on each LOL.

After looking through some more options, I found that there is a setting that blocks sleep mode with sharing media. I live in a dorm, and my network is really poorly run. I'm going to test the changes this evening, hopefully I've found hte solution. Thanks for the help
