Problems with rtvscan and/or system idle process
Lately I've been having problems with lag on my computer, programs start up slowly, they respond slowly, and all sorts of things like that. I do know that part of my problem comes from my web browser, Mozilla Firefox, because that browser is a memory hog, but the rest of my problem remains with rtvscan and system idle process. I know that system idle process is only supposed to make sure that 100% of the cpu is being used but hardly any of my programs get more than 1% of the cpu usage. I mostly want to know what the deal is with rtvscan, I've already seen a question on here with the same problem as me but that question was never really answered, only corrected. Please help me, this is getting really frustrating because it always starts lagging when i need to do something serious like work or something.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Liam Bishop, - Are you referring to the rtvscan.exe file which is the real-time scanning feature of Symantec Internet Security Suite? If yes, it consumes too much of memory utilizing maximum resources for scanning. As you are facing multiple issues, I would suggest you to place your computer in Clean Boot state to identify the applications causing this issue. Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. If yes, you may have to contact the program manufacturer for any updates or uninstall and re-install the program. Here’s the article you may refer to for steps with reference to the same. How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" stateNote: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned here:To configure Windows to use a Normal startup stateAfter you used the clean boot to resolve your problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally. a. Click Start, and then click Run.b. Type msconfig, and then click OK. The System Configuration Utility dialog box is displayed.c. Click the General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.d. When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer. Yes I was referring to the Symantec scanner and I'm in clean boot right now and I've got perfect speed so far, I think that may be my only problem, Firefox is another one but thats unfixable and it's also not too bad. Thank you for your help, I'm going to have to figure out what to do about the scanner, probably update or something. I'm glad that it's not system idle process because that would be a big problem.Thank you for all your help,Liam Bishop

Hi Liam Bishop, You're welcome! Happy to hear that you are able to feel the difference in the speed of your computer now. For Firefox issue, why don't you try to uninstall the application and re-install it again and check? Post back if any further assistance required.
