Problems with OE6
I just had to reload windows xp when I opened OE there were over 4000 thousand messages in the in box after about 2700 messages it balked I got error code 0x800C0133.I found out that having too many messages in a folder causes this error. I reduced the inbox at first to about 2200, trying again i was able receive another about 20 messages and it stopped. I have since reduced to about 1600 and i still get the same response. Another problem crept up, when I navigate within the inbox moving up or after every few messages I get a box say outlook express cannot send a receipt and to press ok which makes it much harder to delete or move messages it's just random it's not messages where the sender asks for a confirmation.Any help will be greatly appreciated. TEEKAY PS On a different i used to be able to go to newsgroup about a year ago there were people from ms that would answer questions 1 name I remember is Bruce Hagen does anyone know what happened to that? 1 person needs an answerI do too

First: Tools | Options | Receipts. Uncheck the option to notify you. That should take care of that issue. When you move or delete messages, the space they took up is not recovered until you compact. Do that now.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Compact Your OE Folders:http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact Move the message you want to a user created folder and don't worry about the ones you don't need. Once you have no messages in the Inbox that you need, delete the Inbox as follows.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the Inbox.dbx and delete it. A new and empty Inbox will be created automatically when you open OE.General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. The size of the dbx file is the size of your folder. Have you tried to compact yet? Do it.If you can't move the messages you want to save, the next bes thing to do is to create a new identity and import your messages. Then you can go ahead and delete the Inbox to get this identity working. Later you can fiddle around saving the Inbox message in the new identity ans eventually import them back.File | Identity | Add New Identity. Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169An Outlook Express basic repair kithttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/oerepair.mspx#EHH Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA
