Problems with Network Printers
Hello, I have an interesting problem to do with the way network printers are installed by end users... If a user installs a network printer by going through 'Devices and Printers' > 'Add Printer' > 'Network Printer' > searches the directory and double clicks the desired printer it is installed and works perfectly. The printer is shown as "Finance on print-server1" However if a user adds a network printer through a program such as Word, Excel or Publisher, the printer is installed but does not work. This time the printer is shown as "Finance on print-server1.consorto.local" - seems to have the domain name as a suffix. Is there a way to remedy this so users can add printers in programs such as Word? Many thanks, Matt Matt Courtman, Network Manager, Cromwell Community College, UK

Hi, To add a Network printer from Microsoft Word 2007 1.click on the Office button and then click Print 2.When the print dialogue box appears, click on the Find Printer button and then click on the Find Now button. 3.When the Find Printers dialogue box appears, select the printer you want e.g. OPENE 4200 for the black and white printer or COLOURE 9500 for the colour printer, then click on OK.Printer Support

What is the printer server? If it is not Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you need to install printer driver when adding the shared printer in a Windows 7 client. If you add the printer within a program, it just forward the port. The printer driver is actually not installed. This behavior is caused by the design of the drivers. No way to resolve. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
