Problems with DNS lookups(I think)
I have a problem with DNS on my machine. Here's the scenario.
ping www.microsoft.com does NOT work
I can ping my ISP DNS servers on IP address but not on hostname
Neither IE,Chrome or Firefox can NOT find any website
If I do a DNS lookup on another machine and ping the IP address that works.
Using just IP addresses works but when using DNS/hostnames nothing works
Tried clearing the DNS cache, removing the network interface card, rebooting the machine.
Trying to do a restore if it was a faulty update but no luck.
I can't even map network drives based on IP address(this could be another problem I guess).
One odd thing though is. If I install the bind binaries like dig and such these tools work
Anyone have any idea?

Hi John,
Before going any further, I want to verify some situation:
1 Did this issue appear before?
2 Did your PC joined in a domain?
3 Did your PC connect through a router?
After checking the issue, it can be caused by the DNS resolution problem, please try to perform these items below:
·
Run the following commands to see if it works:
Ipconfig /renew
·
Register
DNS via command:
Ipconfig /registerdns
·
Manually configure the TCP/IP settings, navigate a static DNS IP address which is the IP address of the router.
·
Clear the Hosts file
1 Click the Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotation marks) and press
Enter.
2 Right-click on the file "Hosts" (without quotations) and choose Delete.
3 Click Continue to confirm the deletion and verify the administrator permission.
·
Temporally disable the firewall on your PC
·
Disable IPV6:
1 Click “Start”
2 Input “Network and Sharing Center” in Search box and press Enter
3 Click “Change adapter settings” on left pane
4 Right click “Local Area Connection” can click “Properties”
5 Remove the option of “Internet Protocol Version 6”
6 Click “OK”
·
Make sure the “Client for Microsoft Networks” is installed
Install "Client for Microsoft Network"
===================
1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and
press Enter.
2. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
3. Please check if "Client for Microsoft networks" is listed.
4. If not, click Install button.
5. High light Client in the list and click Add button.
6. Select Client for Microsoft Network and click OK.
If this issue persists, you can try to login with Safe Mode with networking to see whether the same issue occurs.

Hi I tried almost everything(I think). Tried a system restore as well but to no help. Tried uninstalling the IPv4 component as well and disabling the IPv6 component as well but nothing helped.
I ended up reinstalling the machine thanks for trying to help out!
