Problems streaming photos in WMP 12 on Windows 8.1

Using Windows 7 and WMP 12.0.7601 I can stream photos to my TV and they appear in name order as you would expect.
When I stream the same set of photos using Windows 8.1 and WMP 12.0.9600 the photos are displayed
in a different sequence and I can't find any way to corerect this. I created a test sequence to diagnose the problem and
the photos are titled-:
Test (1), Test (2), Test (3), Test (10), Test (11), Test (20), Test (100), and Test (101) and they appear in this order when listed by name and streamed using Windows 7 and WMP 12.0.7601.
With Windows 8 and WMP 12.0.9600 they are streamed as-:
Test (1), Test (10), Test (100), Test (101), Test (11), Test (2), Test (20), and finally Test (3).
I'm trying to find a way to get the photos streamed in the correct order.

Hi,

Based on my test, we can use name order to play the photo.

When you use the windows media player to play the photos ,the player will create a list automatically as the following photo:

So, even if you change the name of photo, the player will still use the previous playlists.

We need to click clear list first, then we change the title name for all photos, and click Sort by Title.

I am not playing the photos on my computer and there's no playlist being used. The photos are in a library on the computer and I can sort the library into name order and it all looks fine.  The problem shows up when you stream that library to another device - a TV in this case. I tried to send some screenshots and images from the TV of the streamed pictures but I got a message that I couldn't include images until my account was verified.

Hi,

I suggest you upload the screenshots to SkyDrver.

Then, post the link here so that we can download the screenshots.

Hi Kelvin,

I've put three images up on skydrive. Change the default sort order to be by name, descending. The images have captions in case they get out of order.:
1) The view of the WMP library on the Windows 8.1 machine sorted by title. Everything is correct
2) The same library streamed to a TV showing the change in order of the pictures.
3) The same library streamed from a Windows 7 machine showing the pictures back in the correct order.

The order only goes wrong on when the pictures are streamed from Windows 8.1.

The same restriction stopping me posting the screenshots is preventing me posting the skydrive link.

Hi,

As kelvin said,I think we need to verify your account via the following below:

My account has been verified so here is the link to the skydrive location-:

Change the default sort order to be by name, descending. The images have captions in case they get out of order.:
1) The view of the WMP library on the Windows 8.1 machine sorted by title. Everything is correct
2) The same library on the same Windows 8.1 machine streamed to a TV showing the change in order of the pictures.
3) The same library streamed from a Windows 7 machine showing the pictures back in the correct order.

The order only goes wrong when the pictures are streamed from Windows 8.1 using WMP 12.0.9600

This could be due to the way sorting by name is done differently by different programs. Unfortunately I have no place to test this right now with WMP.

If I have some files named: A1, A2, A11, A22. B1, B2, sorting can take place differently depending on how the system looks at the names.

If you look at the first character, it makes sense that all the "A" names will appear before the "B" names. If you at what follows as numbers then the order would be as listed above. However most programs will look at what follows as just an additional set of characters that is sorts in character order not numeric order:

The first would be A1 but since A11 has the same second character and A2 has a second character with a higher value, the result is A1, A11, A2...

If you make the numeric portion of the names the same number of digits, padding with leading zeros, it will probably sort the way you want: A001, A002, A011, A022, B001, B002...

Hope this helps.

The example I put on skydrive was just to illustrate the problem. The real issue affects some 574 pictures so its not really practical to go and renumber them all to work around a problem with Windows 8.1. I was hoping this could be resolved quickly but it looks like I'll have to erase Windows 8.1 and install Windows 7. It's a shame that 8.1 is not ready for prime time.

If the issue is file naming, then the problem is not with Windows implementing a common standard in name sorting but is an issue with the way you have chosen to name the files.

If Windows 7.1 lists and streams the files in the correct sequence and Windows 8.1 also lists the files in the correct sequence and the problem only arises when you stream that same set of pictures from Windows 8.1; How can that be an issue with the names of the files?
