Hi,Method 1:I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps:Click Start, and click run and type CMD in the search box.Find Command on top, right click, Run as Admin.Type chkdsk /f then enter.Type chkdsk /r enter. For more information, refer this link:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265Method 2:Follow these steps:Right click on the drive, and open properties.Click on tools tab and schedule a disk check.See if that helps. method 3 - sometimes running a check disk has to be executed via the recovery console when the command won't initialize via the explorer or finalize at bootup.here is a kb on this method. see option 2 :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >

When you run chkdsk /f from the command prompt window, you should see a message like this:The type of the file system is NTFS.Cannot lock current drive.Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to bechecked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) If you respond in the affirmative by typing Y, the chkdsk /f will run the next time XP boots (or it will try to run). When chkdsk runs automatically on a reboot either because XP thinks it needs to (perhaps your NTFS volume has been marked as dirty) or you chose to do it yourself, the results are shown in the Event Viewer Application log. You need to look there for the chkdsk log and any problems after chkdsk has run. To see the Event Viewer logs, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.A shortcut to Event Viewer is to click Start, Run and in the box enter (or copy and paste):%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.mscClick OK to launch the Event Viewer.Look in the Application log for a recent event sourced by Winlogon, and it should look something like this:Event Type: InformationEvent Source: WinlogonEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1001Date: 8/4/2010Time: 11:25:57 AMDescription:Checking file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS.One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. Youmay cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommendedthat you continue.Windows will now check the disk.Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive.CHKDSK is verifying Usn Journal...Usn Journal verification completed. 39070048 KB total disk space. 28017948 KB in 100571 files. 56540 KB in 10556 indexes. 0 KB in bad sectors. 236440 KB in use by the system. 65536 KB occupied by the log file. 10759120 KB available on disk. 4096 bytes in each allocation unit. 9767512 total allocation units on disk. 2689780 allocation units available on disk.Windows has finished checking your disk. Please wait while your computer restarts. If your report has errors, you may need to run chkdsk /f again until the report shows no errors. if you keep getting errors, then your hard drive may be failing. If you want us to take a look at your chkdsk report that you see in the Event Viewer, you can copy it to the Windows clipboard and paste it back here like this:If you double click an event, it will open a Properties window with more information. On the right are black up and down arrow buttons to scroll through the open events. The third button that looks like two pages on top of each other is used to copy the event details to your Windows clipboard. When you find an interesting event that occurred around the time of your issue, click the third button under the up and down arrows to copy the details and then you can paste the details (right click, Paste or CTRL-V) the detail text back here for analysis. Remove any personal information from your informationafter pasting if you are compelled to do so.If you paste an Event, it will look something like this boring system startup event:Event Type: InformationEvent Source: Service Control ManagerEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 7035Date: 7/14/2010Time: 5:54:18 PMUser: JoseComputer: ComputerDescription:The Remote Access Connection Manager service was successfully sent a start control. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.To get a fresh start on any Event Viewer log, you can choose to clear the log (backing up the log is offered), then reproduce your issue, then look at just the events around the time of your issue and troubleshoot the events that are happening when you have your issue.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
