Problems Networking XP and Vista Computer
I've found helpful information on numerous post to help get me started onnetworking a Vista Computer to two XP computers. Despite the advise I'm stuck. The two XP computers can see each other and I can share folders and printers. No problem there. I can ping the Vista computer by name and by IP address. I can also navigate to shared folders by using //computername in the run box. So I can get to the shared folders on the Vista machine. Unfortunatly I can not see them in the workgroup view.On the Vista machine I can see the two XP computers in the Vista Network Map, but can't drill in to see shared folders. I can ping the XP computers by name and be IP, but I can't pull up the folders using the start search box following the //computername convention (I'm assuming this should show the shared folders). I also can't map a priner connected to the XP machine. In regards to Vista Settings I have the following:Network Discover - ONFile Sharing - OnPublic Folder Sharing - OnPrinter Sharing - OnPassword Protected - OffAny advice on how to get the Vista computer showing in the XP workgroups and to be able to see the XP folders from the Vista machine would be greatly apprecited.

Hi, Thank you for your post. Based on my research, I would like to suggest trying the following to narrow down the issue: 1. If you enabled simple file sharing on the Windows XP computers, please check if Guest account has also been enabled. You can also disable the simple file sharing and reconfigure the sharing on the Windows XP computer: To change the option, follow these steps: 1) Click Start, then Control Panel 2) In Control Panel, double-click the Folder Options icon. 3) Under the VIEW tab, scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings 4) Remove the check from the option labeled: Use Simple File Sharing 5) Click the OK button to save changes. Please try the access the Windows XP computers from the Windows Vista computer with \\computername and see if it works. If an error message appears, please let us know the detail. Hope this helps. Thanks.
