Problematic connections from Win8 to SBS 2003/enabling remote web workplace on Win8 desktop

We're running an SBS 2003 server, most of our client computers are Win7, with some new Win8 desktops added to the mix.

I'm trying to enable Remote Web Workplace on one of the Windows 8 desktops.

The client computer has all the same AD properties as the Win 7 clients, which are working.

The user is a member of all the appropriate groups.

The Win8 desktop can see the shared folders on the server, and authenticates the user against the domain controller, and recognizes that it's logged in to the domain.

I've pushed the remote access software install to the client computer, but when the client computer attempts to go to the //server/ComputerConnect URL to begin the installation, I get an error box saying that it's not connected to the SBS server, and prompts to retry.

What am I missing here?

Hi,

Could you let us know what's the exact error messageDid this issue occur on all Windows 8 computers?

Ensure that the url of the web site is in compatibility mode and add it to the trusted site zone for test.

Meanwhile, Please make sure that remote access software installed successfully on this Windows 8 computer. Also please re-install it manually to test if it's that software cause.

Initially, the problem was connecting to the server to download nshelp.exe, but we got it downloaded, and tried running it, but it said that the PC was already a member of the domain/network.

The Remote Desktop client app is installed and working. Is it the same app that provides the access service to the PC? Or a different app? I went to the software panel in Control Panel, and looked at the Windows options, and the only thing I found even close to Remote Access was the RAS Connection Manager for 32 bit. Is that what I need to install?

When I try to connect from another PC on the network, or from the 'connect via terminal services' link in the server manager on the SBS server, or from the 'connect to client desktop' link on the SBS server webpage,  receive a 'can't connect' error, as if the PC was turned off, or the services weren't running or enabled.

This is actually common to our newest Windows 8 PCs, as I set them up near identically, but I have no problems with the Windows 7 PCs, which I did not set up.  Of course, in the AD, the client computers are all members of the same groups with the same policies, and all the PCs in question have remote access enabled in the properties dialog.

So...any help?

Hi,

What's the remote desktop client app? Like my previous reply, have you tried to compatible mode?

Meanwhile, check this app's website or ask its support to see if there is some special configuration for Windows 8.
