Problem with windows 7 and DHCP server
Hello Everyone ... First of all I am sorry about my english :-( Yesterday i installed about 20 computers with windows 7 and I joined all of them into windows 2K3 server (the server is also DHCP and DNS server). but I didnt receive any IP address from DHCP server. It means that there is a problem with windows 7 and DHCP server. When I give a static address to computere, it works perfectly. This problem is just with windows 7, because the othere computers with XP, can receive an IP adresse from DHCP server without problem. Someone has any idea ? Thanks

What is your network adapter? This can be something like described here: http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/6140-windows-7-sees-nic-but-wont-pick-up-dhcp-address.html http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-networking/6777-solution-netgear-fa311-v1-no-internet-rc-build-7100-a.html --- Paul Svirin StarWind Software developer ( http://www.starwindsoftware.com )

Hi, Firstly, may I know the following? 1. Are there some Group Policy settings regarding firewall on your network? 2. Is there an ISA on your network? At this time, in Windows 7, please also run the following command in an elevated command prompt to disable Windows Firewall and check the issue: Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off For more information about netsh command for WFAS, please also refer to: Netsh Commands for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security If the issue persists, please also capture a netmon trace for our further research: 1. Download the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3. 2. Install network monitor on the computer and start to capture. 3. Run the following commands: ipconfig /renew 4. After the issue occurs (the computer fails to get a correct IP Address), stop capturing and save the netmon trace file to check the related network activations. You can also upload the trace file to Windows Live SkyDrive and share its URL with us Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

We had this same issue with a Cisco router and Windows 7 machines. We took out the default-router subnet mask and then it started working.

Thanks for the tip on this. I had the same issue with a client and they just bought 5 new Windows 7 machines and run on a Cisco network. DHCP is handed out on the Cisco router. There are two DHCP pools, one for wireless and the other for the wired connection. When connected to the wireless it connected just fine and received a DHCP address. When going wired it would not pick up a DHCP address. The wireless DHCP Pool did not have the subnet mask but the wired pool did. Once removed it connected just fine. Thanks!
