Problem with the deletion of a partition
I have a HDD 120 GB and I have created 4 partitions (C: D: E: and K: ) but one of the partitions (K:) doesn't have a Drive Letter. As a result, I cannot delete, format or access this partition via Disk Management. When i try to format this partition, i get the following error: "An unexpected error has occured. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer". Why I cannot format or access this partition?

Can you create a partition? You need to create one to format it My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT I am best with C++ and I am learning C# using Visual Studio 2010 Developer | Windows IT | Chess | Economics | Hardcore Games | Vegan Advocate | PC Reviews

I can create a new partition or delete it. This partition was already existing. I tried with Partition Magic to shrink this partition but it failed and when I restarted the Windows, I realized that the partition was not anymore accessible (I had lost everything). But the main problem is that I cannot format or delete this partition.

Then it seems like the disk is toast. Can you cannot get disk manager to partition it then its done. I hosed a partition or two myself using partition magic back in 2000 (I stopped using it after that) I would suggest something like hiren's, UBCD or UBCD4Win any of those probably have the tools you need to fix the problem without making it worse. Many of those are advanced tools and while looking is ok, if you don't know what you are doing you can really screw things up with them, SO BE CAREFUL.

Please open Disk Management in Windows 7 and check if you already have 4 basic partitions. If so you cannot have the fifth. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I have used the UBCD4Win and I created again the partitions.
