Have you tried using compatibilty mode? and if they don't load it may be a security issue. maybe the phishing filter is blocking them?Daniel Nerenberg MCT MCSE MCITP MCTS MVP

yes i have tried compatibilty mode and compatibility mode doesn't make any difference at all. I had my uncle install windows 7 on his computer at home. At first, those web sites did not load for him either. A day later, those web sites were working on windows 7 for him.I was hoping that someone reading this problem might have heard about this issue. However, I do think it is a security issue because the https will load for furniturebuzz.com but not the http.Thank you

Hi Robshippy, I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall. If the issue persists, follow the steps below to reset IE settings. 1. Click Start, please type inetcpl.cpl (without quotation marks) in the Start Search bar and press Enter to open the Internet options window.2. Switch to the Advanced tab.3. Click the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" button.4. Click Reset to confirm the operation.5. Click Close when the resetting process has finished.6. Uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions" option in the Settings box.7. Click Apply, click OK. If the issue still occurs, please let us know if you have set the computer to access Internet via a proxy server. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Please check Hosts file. 1. Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories2. Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"3. Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt4. Click File -> Open5. Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"6. Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"7. Select "hosts" and click "Open"8. Make the needed changes and close Notepad. Save when prompted. If the issue still occurs, please let us know if your computer has joined in the domain in your company. If so, you may contact the administrator and ask if they has set any policies to deny domain users to access the non-security website of your company. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur Xie,Thank you for being so helpful. Please allow me to make a clarification. I am not trying to log on to my web site's server. I am simply trying to get to the home page of the three various web sites I mentioned above. In IE8 when I try to go to those web sites, IE8 reacts as if my ethernetcable was unplugged. Because the IE8 screen says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems More informationI know that this must seem strange to you. It sure seems strange to me too. These web sites load up just fine on my other computer (with IE7) on my other desk six just feet away.I look forward to hearing from you again.Robert

Hi Robert, Yes, I understand. I asked you if the computer has been joined in domain and if you could access these websites when the computer is in domain, because your domain controller may add some security policies that block you to access the non HTTP websites in the system when it was in domain. If so, the policies may be not removed after you exit the domain and connect to a home network. However, if the above behavior does not exist, please check hosts file. If it does not help, I suggest that you run Windows Update. Then check the result again. If the issue persists, try to boot IE in No Add-ons Mode. Please click the Start Button, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). If the issue does not reoccur, it may be caused by an IE Add-on. In that case, lets continue to perform the following steps to narrow down the cause. 1. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options. 2. Click the "Programs" tab, and then click Manage Add-ons. 3. Select an add-on in the Name list, and then click Disable. 4. Please restart IE with Add-ons and check the issue again. If the issue is resolved, the disabled Add-on was the cause of the issue. If the issue reoccurs, lets continue to disable the next Add-on using the same method. By doing so, we can determine which Add-on contributed to the issue. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur Xie,Per your latest suggestion, I did try to boot IE in No Add-ons Mode. In this mode, furniturebuzz.com and eternabond.com still won't load. BTW, I am pretty sure that bothfurniturebuzz.com and eternabond.com are on the same server at Terramark and therefore have the same IP (I assume). nbwebexpress, which has been working intermittently (today nbwebexpress works, and yesterday it didn't) on IE on this computer is on a separate server. However, I didn't understand what you were talking about whenyou said this..."I asked you if the computer has been joined in domain and if you could access these websites when the computer is in domain, because your domain controller may add some security policies that block you to access the non HTTP websites in the system when it was in domain. If so, the policies may be not removed after you exit the domain and connect to a home network. However, if the above behavior does not exist, please check hosts file."I checked the hosts file (on this computer) and it looked exactly the same as the hosts file on both my windows vista computer and windows xp computer. You still want me to try the "joined in domain" thing? I did not know what to "add" in the hosts file to pull this off. What next?Robert

Hi Robert, I just would like to know if your computer has joined in domain. For example, if it is a laptop, you may take it to your office and connect to the network. Sometimes it may need to join to the domain of your office in order to access some resources. You may boot in Safe Mode with Networking. In this mode, the system runs as in Safe Mode and the only different is that basic network related services are enabled. If the websites are still not accessible, I suspect that this issue is caused by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). The Internet server of the ISP may connect via a proxy or firewall that block data related to the websites. If it is possible, I suggest that you take the computer to another place and connect to the different network, then check the result. Arthur Xie - MSFT
