Problem with range of WIFI access using Windows XP Home (appears to follow a Windows update)
Please refer me to a specific forum post if this question has already been answered ...This refers to a problem using Windows XP Home on my netbook. (I believe the problem occurs with every Windows XP machine I own, but I haven't tried another recently.)My ability to use WIFI in my home (although not on the road) is affected when Windows XP is restarted after Windows Update finds new updates. What happens is that I can no longer get WIFI internet access from my living room, although I can if I move very close to the wireless access point in the next room.I can resolve the problem by going to Control Panel and removing a bunch of Windows Updates (I'm not sure which ones cause the problem I'm seeing.)But when Windows installs new updates again, the problem recurs after the restart. Then I have to go about removing updates again!!!So I have (temporarily) turned of automatic updates. Obviously this isn't a good solution!

HiYour post belongs to the Win XP Network forum.Moving it to the XP Forum.------------------------It might be that the AutoUpdate replaces the Vendors' Drivers with the generic Drivers,Look at the Vendor's Support page download and keep a copy of the Vendor's Drivers. If it happens again try to install the Vendor's drivers. Thanks for your response. I spent some time downloading drivers and reinstalling updates, and the problem seems solved or, at least it doesn't show up.
