Problem with playing embedded Ogg Vorbis audio in WMP12/IE8/Win7
I have a part-time job that involves listening to audio clips on a secure sitewith a Javascript application. The site uses the Ogg Vorbis format for the audio. The clips are embedded in the siteand played via theembedded Windows Media Player. If I try to play to any of the clips, the embedded WMP does not give any error message; it merely remains silent.I downloaded the Ogg Vorbis codec from their website, and I am now able to play standalone .OGG files with the standalone WMP12. However, this is not what I need, as there is no way to download the audio and play it outside of the browser and the embedded WMP (one of the security features of the application).I've done a little research, and it appears that others are having a similar problem. To test my assumption (there is no way for unauthorized users to access the secure site for my job), you can play streaming Ogg content from a number of sites. One of the best of these is WCLV.com, the Cleveland classical music station, which broadcasts both a 32-bit and 64-bit Ogg stream. I believe you will find it is not possible to play these streams directly from the browser if you are using the combination of Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 12.I'm beginning to think this is a legitimate bug, and I wanted to make Microsoft aware of it.
