Problem with pinned programs caused by desktop folder redirection?
Wondered if anyone could help. I am in the process of setting up a mandatory roaming profile for students at our college and during testing I've come across a bizarre problem. If I enable desktop folder redirection (to a read-only DFS path on our file server), the taskbar removes all pinned programs. If I then try and pin a program, the command is ignored. The GPO setting "Remove pinned programs form the Taskbar" is not configured; in fact, to try and get to the bottom of this issue I have removed all user GPO settings in the "start menu and taskbar" and "windows explorer" sections of the administrative templates. If I remove the folder redirection, the pinned programs are visible and I can pin further programs to the taskbar. Has anyone else come across this behaviour before?

I have the same problem at our elementary schools. I use group policy in server 2008 to redirect all teachers desktops so they can have a consistent set of icons. I also use a DFS path. The first time I log on as a teacher I can pin items to the taskbar. Once I log off and the log back in as the teacher all pinned programs from the taskbar disappear and I am no longer able to pin anything to the taskbar. If I remove the folder redirection policy then everything works as it should. However this is not an option for me because I need to have a consistent set of icons for all teachers that I can change quickly. If anyone finds a fix to this I would really appreciate some help. -Joe
