Hi, Firstly, may I know when did the issue start to occur? Is it after some special changes? Please try the following suggestions to troubleshoot the issue as well: 1. Check the WLAN AutoConfig service(WLANSVC) service: WLAN AutoConfig enumerates every wireless network adapter installed on the computer, manages IEEE 802.11 wireless connections, and manages the wireless connection profiles that contain the settings required to configure a wireless client to connect to a wireless network. WLAN AutoConfig allows you to connect to an existing wireless network, change wireless network connection settings, configure a connection to a new wireless network, and specify preferred wireless networks. WLAN AutoCofig also notifies you when new wireless networks are available. When you switch wireless networks, WLAN AutoConfig dynamically updates your wireless network adapter settings to match the settings of that new network and a network connection attempt will be made. So, the WLANSVC didnt work properly may be a sort of cause of the issue. At this time, to make our issue clear, please go to the services.msc and restart the WLAN AutoConfig service. If any error receives, please give me the exact error message. 2. As a Wireless NIC is used, please check the following: 1) It is compatible with Windows Vista. 2) It is plugged properly and the driver is up-to-date. 3) Please also try to plug the device to another USB port without using any USB Hub device. 3. Please check the issue with the following KB and try the hotfix: You cannot connect to a wireless network on a Windows Vista-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935222 4. Perform an online scan with the OneCare Online Scanner ===================================== 1) Proceed to http://safety.live.com then click on the yellow button "Full Service Scan". 2) Click Accept on the Service Agreement. 3) Click "Install Now" button. NOTE: If installation is unsuccessful, click on the information bar below the address bar then click "Install ActiveX Control" 4) When a Security Warning dialog box appears, asking you if you want to install the Windows Live Safety Center Component scanner, please click Install. 5) Click on "Launch Scanner" button. 6) A secondary windowpane opens up titled Full Service Scan. a. Click on Next to proceed with the complete scan. b. A progress bar will appear showing the status of the scanning tools while its downloading. c. A Status: Scanning your computer appears with - Virus and spyware scan - Registry Cleaner Scan - Disk Cleanup scan - Disk Fragmentation Scan - Open Ports scan - Computer information d. After the scan, click on Next on the summary page. e. Status Window: Fixing process will start. f. Summary page will appear. Click on Next. NOTE: Share information with Microsoft has a check by default. g. Uploading report with Microsoft will proceed. h. You will see a message "Scan is Done." If the issue persists, please check the following: 1. Please check the event log to see if there are any related error messages. 2. Please make sure that all the updates have been applied and also try to restore the system back to the previous status when the issue didnt occur. Hope it helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT

You can read this wireless adapter configuration in Vista to try connecting to wireless network, if everything is set correctly and still having problem, you can reset Winsock catalog and see whether it helps. Hope it helps...

Hi, Thank you for the update. Regarding the error 1068, it means The dependency service or group failed to start. Based on this situation, please check dependencies of the WLAN AutoConfig service one by one to see if any error receives and post the information about which service fails and what error is received to the thread. Here are the WLAN AutoConfig service dependencies: Extensible Authentication Protocol (Started, Automatic) CNG Key Isolation (Started Automatic) NativeWiFi Filter (might not exist) NDIS usermode I/O Protocol (might not exist) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (Started, Automatic) DCOM Server Process Launcher (Started, Automatic) Note: Please also check the dependencies of the failed services of the list above and let me know the detail information. At this time, please also let me know the following: 1. The brand and model of the Wireless Network Adaptor. 2. Do you manage the wireless device with some third party management software? (If so, please give me its name and try to switch to use Windows to configure the wireless network settings) By the way, please also try my previous suggestions as well, if you have not finished it yet. Hope it helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I have the same problem. Erro 1068, a dependency service. The registry hack didn't work. This problem existed from the time I started the PC for the first time. It has never been on the internet, unless something was installed on the image HP uses to stage these machines, then it is free of any malicious software. Extensible Authentication Protocol (Started, Automatic) check CNG Key Isolation (Started Automatic) check NativeWiFi Filter (might not exist) does not exist NDIS usermode I/O Protocol (might not exist) does not exist Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (Started, Automatic) check DCOM Server Process Launcher (Started, Automatic) checkThe adapter is an Intel Wireless Wifi Link 5100Windows looks to be set to configure the card, but since I can't get the service to start I cannot verify that.
