Problem with Windows XP, CPU usage and Screen Refresh
I am having problems with my Windows XP operating system. Recently I have noticed after using my machine for a period of time the desktop icons will disappear, the screen will not refresh, soon other windows I open will not refresh and my hard drive goes into overdrive. I check the task manager and the CP usage shoots up to 70 or 80% and the progrm hogging the CPU is explorer.exe. The only solution I have found it to reboot the computer. Could you help me solve this problem?P.S. I have also noticed iexplore.exe is running and lsass or something like that. I have AVG security installed and it is nearing the end of its licensing period. Could this be something to make me renew my license with them?1 person needs an answerI do too

No, it won't be avg. But it definitely could be a virus. I'd use kaspersky's free scanning tool. As follows: Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400 Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files. Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: Extended Scan Options: Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases Click OK & have it scan My Computer Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it. Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan Thanks, v M.V.P. - Desktop Experience | M.C.S.A. | M.C.P. - MS Server 2k3, Network Architecture
