Problem with IE8 Favororites / Shortcuts in Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
I am using IE8 32 bit (for flash)and 64 bit versions. My OS is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. The problem I have is this: I open up IE8 and find any webpage and then hit "favorites" and then "add to favorites". Then "create in" or place the shortcut in a folder I have made within favorites. I have a whole list of folders as do most people. After I save the one shortcut, I get two shortcuts for that one page. One of the shorcuts with the favicon works and the other one is invalid and I have to delete it. It happens mostly when you save it in a custom named folder within favorites. It happens less when you just add it to favorites below your folders in the favorites drop drop menu. You can see how this would be infuriating to fix with every link you save. If you right click on the working link and hit "properties" it has a "web document" with the url listed. However, in the "general" tab of "properties" is does not have the right "description". It should be the meta "title" listed in the html. In the properties of the link that does not work the "web document" is missing, so no url is listed. The favicon is also missing. The only thing it gets right is the meta "title" in the "description". This problem seems to occur less in IE8 64 bit. Please help as I have tried and failed to fix the issue by searching the web.

I have done all this before. The problem still is created when I save a fresh bookmark. I solved the problem for good and switched to Firefox! How did I ever live without them? Ie8 really sucks bad compared with Firefox and its addons. So the fix is switch to Firefox. Microsoft never took browsers serious. I am not going to even try IE9 beta, I like Firefox too much now. There is a reason they are the most used browser and IE is much lower on that list.

Hi, Based on you description, I suggest you could go to the following folder and delete the duplicated ones and rearrange the favorites folder completely.: %userprofile%\Favorites Reference: Managing your Internet Explorer favorites Customize your Favorites bar Hope it helps. Regards, Alex Zhao Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Just for kicks I did as you asked. I even went so far as to delete all the files and start over. As soon as I saved a shortcut in a named "new folder" it still made two shortcuts. Same issue. blah. I even install IE9 BETA and same problem. I did not even convert bookmarks over or anything. Just started off fresh. I give up for now until I get a fix. Until then it's Firefox.

Here is a link to a picture of what is happening. Notice the two facebook links. One is good and one is bad. I get both shortcuts after adding facebook to favorites once. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/5005644212_d885ecbe4f_z.jpg
