Problem using Remote Assistance from Server 2008 R2 to Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit
GPOs probably set correct, firewalls disabled for test purposes. I get this in the event viewer on the 2008 R2 machine (our administrative console server) when trying to connect to the W7 machine: There was a problem interacting with COM object 833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE. An outdated version might be installed, or the component might not be installed at all. This seems to indicate that Remote Assistance from 2008 R2 is trying to use Help & Support (the guid) instead of MSRA. Bug or am I missing something?

Hi, Based on my research, to offer remote assistance to a remote computer, you must belong to the Offer Remote Assistance group on the remote computer. You could refer to the following article: When you try to start the Remote Assistance task, the following event is logged: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-RemoteAssistance/Admin Source: Microsoft-Windows-RemoteAssistance Event ID: 9 Level: Error Keywords: User: Domain\Username Computer: Name_of_the_Windows Vista/Server 2008_computer Description: There was a problem interacting with COM object 833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE. An outdated version might be installed, or the component might not be installed at all. To offer remote assistance to a remote computer, you must belong to the Offer Remote Assistance group on the remote computer. To resolve this issue, add your account to this group. Also, you could learn more about remote assistance by referring to the following link: Remote Assistance and Resulting Internet Communication in Windows Server 2008 If the issue persists, you could also go to Windows Server forum for further help: Windows Server Forums Hope it helps. Didn't notice there was a reply. Unfortunately, I haven't got this to work yet. Second error: There was a problem interacting with COM object 833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE. An outdated version might be installed, or the component might not be installed at all. First error: DCOM got error "2147746132" from the computer xxx.xxx.com when attempting to activate the server: {833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE} ---------------------------------------------- The user trying to offer Remote Assistance was/is a member of Offer Remote Assistance Helpers. Tried to disable firewall but nothing changed. Giving solicited remote assistance files sent via mail works between the two machines. Just the Expert (helpdesk) mode that fails.

This had to do with cryptolevels and was very specific to our environment. Not an issue any more.

The user trying to offer Remote Assistance was/is a member of Offer Remote Assistance Helpers. Tried to disable firewall but nothing changed. Giving solicited remote assistance files sent via mail works between the two machines. Just the Expert (helpdesk) mode that fails. Can you clarify the cryptolevel issues in your environment? What troubleshooting steps did you take? Maybe the same thing is happening in my environment. Thanx in advance, MicaH
