Problem to copy/cut/move large files/folders between W7 and NAS
I have a windows 7 issue, which i believe I share with many others. When I cut (or) copy large files from my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine to my ReadyNAS Duo or media streamer, Popcorn Hour (both Linux based systems) the files starts to copy, but after some minutes I'll get a Network Error massage: There is a problem accessing M:\folder\... Make sure you are connected to the network and try again. I get three choices: Try again, skip or cancel. Try again does not work and the other choices does not copy my files. I have a workgroup including one laptop with XP professional, one stationary computer with Windows 7, one media streamer (Popcorn Hour), one Netgear ReadyNAS Duo. These machines are connected using a Dynalink DNS655 router in a wired set-up. I have tested to connect the NAS directly to the Windows 7 machine (without router) which is possible with this NAS without crosswired cables. The copying problem remain. The copying problem is the same from the Windows 7 machine to either the media streamer or the NAS, which indicate it is a Windows 7 problem? Copying large files from my XP laptop to the NAS or media streamer works fine, also indicating a Windows 7 problem? I have read through a number of posts without finding a solution. I have tested to disable autotuning and to replace the cable connecting the NAS to the router. Ideas?

This usually points to a problem with the network adapter, the switch involved or sometimes also the disk controllers. Try the latest drivers, the latest firmware for your hardware devices. You could try also to disable specific features like Jumbo Frames. Best greetings from Germany Olaf

Thanks for replying. Jumbo frames are disabled and I have the latest drivers for my devices... Frustrating!

Do you copy to an UNC path? In this case Windows may send the data faster, than the NAS can take them. (This is a speculative statement.) If your NAS supports also uploading via Web interface, you could try that method. Best greetings from Germany Olaf

Thanks Olaf, Just posting if anyone else run into this problem. It turned out that disabling "Automatically update database" from ReadyNAS/Services/Streaming Services/ReadyDLNA tab solved my copying problem. Now I have to find a similar solution for my Popcorn... ...and why does copying from XP work?
