Problem setting up Network with Vista
This is my first time setting up a home network. I am having an issue with setting up a home network with vista. It includes two computers, and one laptop. The two computers have Windows XP, and the laptop has Windows Vista. I am not sure whether the setup is different for Windows Vista, but whenever I use the "Setup home or small office" wizard, and restart the pc, I cannot see other computers on the network. One time it gave me an error when I tried to access the workgroup on one of the desktop computers: Network1 is not accessible. You may not have permission to access the network. Contact the administrator on the server. Something of that nature. Can someone please assist me with this issue? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Thank you for your post. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you: 1. Does the issue only occur after you use the "Setup home or small office" wizard? 2. Can the Windows XP machines access each other? 3. Can the Windows Vista machine ping the Windows XP ones? As we have different specialty/area for different kind of issue, I would like to confirm whether the error message that Network1 is not accessible. You may not have permission to access the network. Contact the administrator on the server is occurred on a Windows Vista machine or Windows XP machine so that we can resolve the issue more efficiently. If it is occurred on a Windows XP machine, please submit the issue on Windows XP Newsgroup:http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general Generally, this issue can occur when one or more of the following conditions are true: The Computer Browser service is not running on the computer. File and Printer Sharing and other settings may not be configured correctly on the computers that are connected to the network. A problem exists with a physical component, such as a network adapter, a network cable, or a hub. Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

This issue has been resolved. I had to install the NETBios protocol, and adjust the firewall settings on each computer. I pinged each pc and it was successful. Thank you.
