Problem running IE8 diagnostic tool
IE8 has been running very slowly recently on my laptop (Windows XP SP3). It takes at least one full minute to open and pages sometimes take almost that long to appear. Sometimes it works fine for a while but then when you go to another site it slows to a crawl again (and uses 99% of CPU capacity during the long wait while it opens a new page).I found the following diagnostic tool in the XP support menu:http://support.microsoft.com/gp/ie_freezes_or_crashesIt seemed to describe some of the problems so I tried to run the tool. After clicking the "Run now" button, and then "Run" in the next 2 security warning boxes that pop up, I get an error message as follows:Additional software is required to run this diagnostic.NET Framework 2.0 or higher (required)Would you like to download and install the required software now?I clicked "Yes".The download screen that opened next with the button to download the software also had a red "stop sign" notice saying: "A newer version is available - Microsoft .NET Framework 4."I assumed it would be best to download the most recent version (and the earlier screen said that .NET Framework 2OR HIGHER was required.Version 4.0 then downloaded and installed without problems. It asked me to restart my computer which I did. I then went to Microsoft Update and found 2 security updates to that software and installed those (and again restarted my computer).I then went back to the IE8 diagnostic page above and tried to run it again. However the same screen appears saying that I have to install .NET Framework 2.0or higher. It doesn't seem to recognize that I just installed .NET Framework 4.0.Thanks for any suggestions.
