Problem initializing the TPM security hardware
While attempting to enable BitLocker on my system volume in Windows 7 x64 RC1, I'm presented with the "Initializing the TPM security hardware dialog," and I receive the following error:"A required TPM measurement is missing. If there is a bootable CD or DVD in your computer, remove it, restart the computer, and turn on BitLocker again. If the problem persists, ensure the master boot record is up to date."Platform is a Lenovo ThinkPad T500 with an INTC TPM, manufacturer version 4.1, TPM spec 1.2.Any ideas? Thanks in advance.Josh

I am also having the same issue. I am running Windows 7 (32 bit) RC. The TPM Module is there and working (worked fine in Vista) I get the same error message. I am stumped as well.

I asume you don't have a CD or DVD in the system when you start the BitLocker wizard. Also make sure you remove anyUSB sticks from the device and arrange the boot order in the BIOS to first boot from the hard disk. Preferrably don't have the system in adocking station when enabling BitLocker. Is this system a clean install of Windows 7? Can you check of your disk already has two partitions on it? With a clean install Windows 7 creates a small partition of100-300 MB and the OS partition. BitLocker needs the two partitions to function. If this all is fine, you may want to try and run the repair option from the Install DVD to check the status of the master boot record.Ray

I am also having trouble. I have created an Windows 7 Enterprise image using Ghost 11.5 with sysprep. Once I run sysprep and use the image and try to enable Bitlocker, i get the message above "A required TPM measurement is missing. If there is a bootable CD or DVD in your computer, remove it, restart the computer, and turn on BitLocker again. If the problem persists, ensure the master boot record is up to date." I have tried both solutions above to no avail. I do not have this problem with Vista using the same tools and methods. I can encrypt the machine fine without using a TPM chip. It would be nice not to need a USB key to turn on the pc however. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone figured this out yet? I originally thought my problem was with my image so I rebuilt it, made sure my bios was up-to-date and still I get the message that "a required tpm measurement is missing". At the same time, I can plug in a USB drive and run BitLocker on it just fine. However, I cannot run BitLocker on my C drive (W7 Enterprise) at all. If I do the install from the original DVD it works fine so it probably is something with my MBR but I have no idea what it could be. I've done the startup repair from the Windows 7 DVD but that didn't help. Also, if I run the bitlocker setup utility (c:\windows\system32\bdehdcfg.exe), I get a message saying that "this computer's hard drive is properly configured for BitLocker. It is not necessary to run BitLocker Setup.". I'm hoping someone has this figured out. I hate to burn an incident with Microsoft on this if I can avoid it.

If I use the bootrec utility off the Windows 7 DVD, then I can use BitLocker. I really wish I could figure out what I'm doing to mess up my mbr. bootrec - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927392

I figured this problem out with the help of a few posts and replies from folks. Check out this thread:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/926fd054-5bb5-4b79-a361-8e906f0f1d7a/

I took one look at this link (but thank you) and it seems like a lot of work? I am interested in BitLocker rather than a third party solution because I assumed that being a native OS tool from Microsoft that it would be easy to set up and use, but now I'm starting to wonder how complicated this needs to be.

I fixed my TPM issue by running this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record-26.html It appears Acronis (?) may have upset the MBR signature, now restored to default, happily typing on a Bitlocker encrypted drive now so my clients data is secure. Thank you :-)
