Problem displaying Japanese characters after uninstalling things
Hi, Please try to perform a system restore first, you can refer this article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore If the issue persists, you may try to download Japanese Language package from: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8289 And manually install it. Hope that helps. Regards, Leo Huang Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi yesterday I was trying to free up some disk space by uninstalling random programs that I've never used (or so I thought). The problem now is that after the uninstallations, I am no longer able to view Japanese characters of my file names. Instead of the usual characters, now they display square boxes. What program am I supposed to re-install to fix this, and is this available online? I do not own a windows 7 CD as it came with the computer when I bought it. Thank you.

I suspect you have a recovery partition. I hate those things myself. I like a native windows disk. Vendors want to lock in the fluff. Can you display a web page from Japan ok? Probably be best to backup and install Windows clean given the mess you made Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. Hi thank you for your reply. Yes I am able to view Japanese webpages perfectly fine. Could you guide me on how exactly to backup and install Windows? I'm so sorry I'm not good at these stuff.

No I do not. Can I back it up on my internal hard drive? I tried doing a backup on my hard drive a few days back and i suspect that's what that caused my computer to have a low hard disk space. But I don't know how to delete the backup either, and that's why I uninstalled stuff that I probably need, what a mess.

Alright thanks for your help, guess I learnt my lesson not to try stupid things when I don't know what I'm doing. Obviously I don't have the money that's why I'm posting questions here instead of emailing customer service. Gotta live with boxes now I guess.
