Problem connecting to some 2003 Servers with Vista Business
I am logging into a 2003 Domain with 13 servers using Vista Business. I see all of the servers under Network. However 5 of the servers will not allow me to connect, a log in box comes up saying "Connecting to ServerName" No user name/password combination seems to work but of course I shouldn't even need one at that point anyways. The same thing happens if I enter \\ServerName into the run command for those servers. I have found that if I enter \\ipaddress it connects OK? I am convinced it is not an issue with the servers because I can connect normally with an XP machine. This is a problem as I am writing programs that need to access xml files on those servers using \\servername\.....\filename.xml and it is failing on those machines. Anyone else seeing this problem?

Hi rdroske, It seems a Kerberos authentication issue. Please apply the hotfix KB 942219 to check the result. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942219 Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Thanks for the response. That is one of those "submit a request to get the fix" pages. Usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to actually get it but my request is in. I'll post on how it works.

No that patch does not seem to help. Still get log in box on some servers with \\servername and no loginbox and connect ok with \\ipaddress

Hi rdroske, I would like to confirm the following items with you: 1. Can the Windows Vista machine access other share folders on those servers? 2. Can the servername of those servers be resolved correctly? Meanwhile, please upload the system log on the Windows Vista machine for further research. Here are the steps: 1. Click Start, and type eventvwr on the Start Search box.2. Expand Windows Logs, right-click System, and click Save Event As to export the system event log to a .evtx file. 3. Upload to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=6ac87808-d533-404b-bd8b-4a81f570f391 Password: pH!n[vt0Zdc# Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
