Problem connecting Windows Mobile Device
I am having trouble connecting my Windows Mobile device to my computer running Windows 7 RTM. When I connect the device, it is recognized as Generic RNDIS with an error. I tried downloading and installingWindows Mobile Device Center, but as soon as the installation begins, Windows tries to install some driver, but this install errors. This was all working fine in Windows Vista...Any thoughts? Thanks,I. Kinal

Hi, What exact error is received and what the model of the mobile device is? You can try reinstalling the driver as below: 1. Connect the mobile phone, click the Start Button, type "Device Manager" in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Look under the "Network adapters" node for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter". Right-click "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and choose to "Uninstall" 3. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box if available, click OK. 4. Look under the "Mobile Devices" node for "Microsoft USB Sync". Right-click "Microsoft USB Sync" and choose to "Uninstall". 5. Restart the computer. If the issue persists, capture screenshots of the errors and update to your Sky Drive and let me know the link. Screenshot ======== 1. If the error message appears, press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2. Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click Desktop on the left pane and then click "Save".Vivian Xing - MSFT

Hi, First, please let me know how the device is connected to the computer. You can try the following steps: 1. Go to Version and update the USB drivers: http://www.verizonwireless.com/ 2. Try it in clean Clean Boot mode. If it persists, I need to know what exact error is received, please capture screenshot as mentioned before and upload to Sky Drive and let me know the link.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Thank your for your response! My device is connected to my computer by a USB cable. 1. I could not install the USB drivers from Verizon - they will not install on Windows 7. 2. Clean boot did not solve the problem. I do not receive any error, the device simply has no driver installed.Thanks,I. Kinal

What version of Windows Mobile Device Center are you trying to install? (A link to the one you're using would be helpful)What drivers are you trying to use from Verizon? (I didn't think any drivers were needed beyond what was in WMDC; this link says you need to purchase some drivers from Verizon, but I think that's incorrect - http://search.vzw.com/?do=viewdoc&id=15483&p=3411&supportview=1)What error do you get when you try to install that application? Is this on 32-bit Win7 or 64-bit?Want to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? It seems that there is no built-in driver is available for this Verizon XV6800. Given this situation, you need to contact its manufacturer to confirm its Windows 7 compatibility. From the system stand point, you can try reinstalling USB controllers: Reinstall USB controllers ----------------------------- Use the Mouse ================ First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps: 1. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary. 2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK". 3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically. Use the Keyboard ================ First, please disconnect all USB devices. Then, go through the following steps: 1. Press "Ctrl + Esc" to open the “Start” menu. 2. Type “devmgmt.msc” in the Search bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary. 3. In Device Manger, press Tab and use "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". 4. Press "Right" and expand it. 5. Press "Down" to move to the first item and press "Delete" to remove it. 6. Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all controllers automatically. Does it work? Vivian Xing - MSFT

Try this (on your Mobile): START/Settings/Connections->USB to PC Uncheck "Use advanced features" (or something similar, can't remember of the top of my head). Reboot everything bazillion times the way MS likes it. You should not need any stupid Verizon drivers. LT

Reboot everything bazillion times the way MS likes it. You should not need any stupid Verizon drivers. LT On the contrary, some Mobile Devices have up-to-date drivers which allow for better functionality & stability when connected to your PC. I agree that the 'Advanced Features' has been an issue previously with my installation but not since using Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1Please dont be derogatory (possibly spelt wrong lol) when people are just trying to help. Thank you for all of the responses! The question above regarding which version of Windows Mobile Device Center I was trying to install made me experiment a little, and I found the solution to my problem! I was trying to install WMDC 6.1, but the trick was to install 6.0 first, and then 6.1 . That installed, although there were still a few failed driver installations along the way. But after I started WMDC, it installed a driver for my device, and synchronization is now working perfectly! Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions!I. Kinal
