Problem connecting Vista Laptop to printer.......
............on an XP machine. My Epson printer is physically connected to my PC which has XP Pro installed. I can connect to the PC using a wireless router connection from my laptop using Vista basic. The file sharing and internet work fine, but when I come to use the printer I can see it on the network but when I click on it, it says access denied. I've checked the printer properties on the XP machine and it says sharing allowed, I also downloaded the drivers onto the vista machine but it still says access denied.I've looked on the help and support section on the XP machine and to change the permissions it says to right click on the printer, go to properties and then click the security tab, but there isnt a security tab there!I know the printer works fine through the router, because my kids have an old computer using xp home that can use the printer.Does anyone have any ideas?TIA

Hello, Access Denied issues related to networking printing from Windows Vista to Windows XP/2000 are generally driver related, in other words, the driver may be not UAC-compliant and incorrectly check and judge your privilege though it may be enough. A warm-hearted customer has shared a method to solve this kind of issues, I hope you can give it a try: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2817449&SiteID=17 Let us know the result if possible and I really hope you havent downgraded your system. Cheers, Lionel

Apologies for the delay in answering. I eventually solved the problem by using the add new printer wizard but selecting local printer rather than network printer, and then putting the \\computer name\printer name in the address
