Problem accessing EFS encrypted files, still in same user login
hi all,i have a set of files that are encrypted using efs (windows xp pro sp3). stupidly i cant find my private key/certificate that im sure i backedup at some point, but cant find it anywhere.i am always logged in as admin (only 1 account on this pc). today i logged in and spybot found a trojan that i removed using spybot. now i cant access my encrypted files (normal access denied you expect when you dont have permissions). just to confirm, i am using the same login, i have changed nothing on my login such as username/password or computer name, everything is exactly the same.i couldnt figure this out. so i made a blank file, right click and encrypted it, and noticed the 'certificate thumbprint' is different on this file to the other encrypted files (of which have the same thumbprint).i downloaded this demo and ranhttp://www.elcomsoft.com/aefsdr.htmlit found various keys on the computer apparently (although when i searched for files *.pfk found nothing). it could de-encrypt most of the files, not all of them. trouble is its £150.i really dont want to have to spend that cash when i should just have access to these files anyway. i am thinking that trojan removal has done something to my login or user account.Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? Your help much appreciated. Thanks 1 person needs an answerI do too

Not backing up your key/certificate has just cost you 150 pounds. Sorry. There is no backdoor to EFS encryption.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
