Problem Opening Word Documents within IE in Windows 7
Hi, i have a problem on some computers in my office where the user tries to open a word document link in IE and it tries to open it but then closes the window straight away. I know how to solve this problem when the user is on XP which is to go into Folder Options, then go to the File Type tab and untick "confirm open after download" and to tick "Browse in same window" under .doc. The problem is that in windows 7 this tab has been removed and the options under Default Programs in Control Panel don't include this. Does anybody know how to sort this problem out in Windows 7? Thanks in advance

You have Word install on the machines or are you using Wordpad to read the documents? Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Sounds like an association issue. Can you download a document and have the Windows dialog popup and as to open/save? Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Hi, I would like to confirm which window closed. The Word window or the IE window. Can you right click on the doc file and choose "Save Target as" to save it and then open. If the issue persists, you can try resetting IE: Reset IE============1. Click the Start Button, type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.4. When it finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK twice.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Hi, basicaly the word document is trying to open within IE and then that same window closes before loading. I have tried as you suggested but the problem is still there. I have just tried changing my security settings and adding the site to safe list and this still doesnt fix the problem.

Right clock on a word document, the it will show open. Do not do that, chose select default program and change it back to word or wordpad as appropriate.
