Problem Connecting to password protected network share with Vista Home Premium
I have been successfully running a small home network using 2 Win XP SP2 PCs, one Windows XP Home edition PC connecting to2 Buffalo Linkstations. The Home Edition and one of the XP systems are directly wired to a Netgear Wireless ADSL router as are the 2 linkstations. The second XP system connects wirelessly. No Problems. I have just purchased a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. I eventually got all the units talking to each other after putting all the IP addresses into the Vista laptop as trusted sites in Norton AV. As I store business material on the linkstations I prefer to keep them password prtested away from the rest of the family. This works fine from the XP systems but the VISTA system refuses to recognise any network share which has password protection. I get the message that the network name or passward has been mis-spelt, which is not the case.My username and passwords are identical on all XP systems and they are all in the same workgroup. So in order to see these shares from VISTA I have had to remove the password protection. Before removing the passwords I connected from one of the XP systems and then tried to connect at the same time fromVISTA. This acknowledged that I was using the correct username and password because it complained that there was already a connection using the same username and password. The problems happen regarldess of whether I am using wireless or directly wired connections to the router. The Buffalo helpdeskhave suggested that I try using secpol.msc butit does not exist on Vista Home Premium. As Vista is advertised as being more secure than ever, can anyone help in getting it to use password protected network shares as it has made my setup less secure?
