Problem Accessing Network share on 2k8 Server
Hello Since we installed some Windows 7 Clients we cannot access a Server with the normale unc path. So the scenario is: - Windows 7 Enterprise Client (NetBios over TCP - default over DHCP) - Windows Server 2008 as a File Server which stored the share's i would like to access - Windows Server 2003 as a Domain Controller, DHCP and DNS Server. If i access the server like this: \\Servername\sharename the message appears: Windows cannot acces \\.... You do not have permissions to access \\... If i do this with (FQDN) \\servername.domain..\sharename or the ip adress it works. I checked in other threads and they talked about time differences between the fileserver and the client, but that's ok. I also checked if netbios over TCP is activated. it is activated on both, client and Server... Have anyone a good idea what to check or help me out. Regards Thomas

When you ping the server by its name (not FQDN), does it resolve it to the right IP and if you ping the ip -a does it resolve it to the right name? Also, have you tried a ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns and a restart of the DNS server service on the DNS server?

Hello The ping is ok, so it resolves the right name. When i ping the with the attribute -a the ip adress give me an "answer"... I do this on another server which is working and i also get answer from the ip... I haven't tried to do the ipconfig for registering and flushing the cash. But normal dns solve work without problems, so i don't think that's a DNS Server issue... Regards Thomas ***for your information, we have configured "access Based Enumeration" on to shares, on one Share we have disabled the option and on this it works... So we tried after deactivating ABE, but without any success... On the 3th share offline files is deactivated.

Please try to set DNS suffix search list for Windows 7 clients. The entries are both ok.... so there's default our full domain Suffix in it. I don't think anything changes, when i replace this entries with the same content. I will try and write, if something changes and the problem now doesn't appear.

Hi, do you still have the problem? I have a very similar one, described in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverfiles/thread/cd16a671-5afd-4593-84c5-2112862389b7 So my quiestions are: - do you use access based enumerations? - does this error occur on shares mapped to a drive letter? - do you have a lot of NTFS permissions using global or domain local groups?
